SESSION 1: THE PLAY CYCLE

This two-hour session is aimed at parents and educators who work with children and young people of all ages in the early years, school. After school and other settings, this session explores the role of the adult in children's play and tackles the tricky question of when and how we should become involved in their playing – if at all.

It does this by defining the process that children pass through from the moment immediately before playing begins to the point when playing ends.

“The Play Cycle is the invisible thread that weaves its way unconsciously through children’s play. Without it, children cannot make the most from their play experiences.” ~ Marc Armitage

PAST GIGS

“This was amazing! This is happening all around us all the time and I had never noticed!” (participant TAS)
“Since doing this PD I have been seeing the Play Cycle around me all the time. It makes so much sense.” (participant NSW)

SESSION 2: HOW NEAT IS TOO NEAT FOR PLAY?

There around two-hundred Playwork-led Adventure Playgrounds just in the UK alone. These playgrounds, which started in Denmark in the 1930s, are not just spaces with big dramatic swings and high climbing features … they are a very special type of playspace that are staffed with quantified Playworkers who cater for the intrinsic need that children and young people have for playing in ways that outside the playground might be considered anti-social, destructive and dangerous.

Children love them, understand them and need them. Adults often struggle with the idea.

Join us with international Playwork consultant Marc Armitage to explore this type of play provision in a special END OF YEAR event with a light supper, a presentation and discussion with a screening of the documentary film The Land – a film by Erin Davis that explores the life of one North Wales adventure playground.

This session is an eye-opener and is confronting. Prepare to have your concept of the ideal playspace seriously challenged.
